Wellingara Football Club win the Brikama Sports Committee Inter-Kabilo Super Cup final 2026 (PC: Manjangho)
Wellingara Football Club defeated Jambaar Sanneh in a nail-biting penalty at Brikama Sports Committee Inter-Kabilo Super Cup final 2026, following a dramatic 2-2 draw in the regulation time.
Wellingara, the defending champions, started strong with Alieu Gassama scoring the first goal in the 18th minute, giving them a 1-0 lead at halftime. They kept up the pressure after the break, and their efforts were rewarded when they were awarded a foul in the box of the opponent, resulting in a penalty kick. Yankuba Busuma stepped up for Wellingara and successfully converted the penalty, increasing Wellingara’s lead to 2-0.
However, Jambaar Sanneh refused to back down. They began their comeback in the 57th minute with Sarjo Marena scoring from the spot, taking advantage of a mistake by Wellingara’s goalkeeper. Soon after, Sulayman Jules Sagna found the net with a header, equalising the score at 2-2 and sending the match into penalties.
In the shootout, Wellingara managed to score three out of their five attempts, while Jambaar Sanneh could only score two. That secured the win for Wellingara.
As the champions, Wellingara took home a cash prize of D25,000 and a giant trophy, while the runners-up, Jambaar Sanneh received a consolation prize of D15,000.
The event was part of the 2026 Brikama Sports Committee Inter-Kabilo ‘Ramadan’ night football tournament fully sponsored by His Excellency President Adama Barrow. The final of the tournament that was played on 28th February and named after the sponsor, President Barrow, attracted a large crowd, including notable attendees like Ousman Bojang, the Governor of the West Coast Region, and other important figures in government and sports.
