The Media Academy for Journalism and Communication (MAJaC) organized a review on the state of information disorder in The Gambia, bringing together journalists and media practitioners to discuss progress, challenges and solutions. The presentation was delivered by Mustapha Ceesay, a trainer at MAJaC.

Participants noted that the country has made progress in combating misinformation and disinformation through strengthened fact-checking initiatives, journalist training and the establishment of fact-checking centres. The government also launched a national awareness campaign in 2025 and plans to set up a misinformation and disinformation verification centre. Efforts are also underway to domesticate the Pretoria Action Plan.
However, challenges remain, including resistance to sharing information, bureaucratic delays and the high cost of accessing certain data. To address these issues, participants recommended establishing fact-checking desks in newsrooms, expanding media literacy training, strengthening partnerships with civil society and implementing a clear data policy to improve access to information and transparency.
